Since I’ve already reviewed and bought both of these as separate items, I’m not gonna relate anything about each explain (notice individual reviews for that) . I will objective rehash what I have all along. Despite its missing pieces from the book, the Recent is mild 5 star material. The “in betweener” is only worth it’s value because it is a disc copy (as opposed to a tape copy) . My advice, engage the Recent separately, and read the book to catch the “dependable missing years”. If you are building a library of “ALL Richard Chamberlain”, then choose both or this combo. But be prepared to be disappointed in what the alleged “Missing Years” has to offer (again sight separate review) . By the arrangement for those who pay attention to cosmetic details, in most places that sell this combo, The Missing Years is in a thin case “attached” to the box of the new while the separate release is in a perceive through normal size case. The notes on both programs are the same as on the separate copies.

Forget this rip-off on the “Thorn Birds” seek the new and read the book it is based on. This mid-qual (not a sequal – not a prequal – but the years in between) was mis-conceived and badly cast. Other than Richard Chamberlin replaying the lusty priest Father Ralph – most of the other main characters are played by different actors (and unfortunately mis-cast) than the fresh. Amanda Donoghoe is especially grating as Meggy and Bryan Brown is very missed as Luke O’Neill, Meggy’s one-time husband.

I really liked this season. I have almost all of them. And this is the most memorable and droll one yet. Laura and Almanzo bag married. Eliza Jane moves away. The Garveys recede away to Sleepy Notice. A unusual football coach comes to town and takes it so far that the team wants to halt and Albert gets injure. There are a few episodes in Sleepy Peep with the Garvey’s, And the Kendalls.

After a few mishaps Laura suspects that Almanzo is having a savor affair with one of her friends. Albert gets a penpal that he lies too. About being the tallest and everything. He wants to say he’s sorry in person so he visits her and finds out she lied about everything too. Almanzo and Charles want to expand their buisness but they don’t obtain along when trying to do so.

Adam regains his behold and decides he wants to be a lawyer.

The married women of Walnut Grove are upset to win out that everything that is theirs now belongs to thier husbands. They begin a petition which leads to a rebellion.

Percivals Parents advance to town and his father and Mrs. Oleson argue about the grandchild being a christian or a jew.

Almanzo’s brother Royal leaves his two wacky kids with the Wilders while they go on vacation.

Laura quits teaching after Mrs. Oleson suggests the school adds “French”, and “Art Aprecciation.” Mrs. Oleson takes over the school and the kids demolish up hating it. (No wonder)

Adam and Mary disappear relieve to Walnut Grove so Adam can commence a law practice there.

Caroline believes she’s pregnant until Doc Baker tells her she’ll never again have children. She gets very upset and Charles takes her serve to her hometown for a vacation.

Charles and Albert are traveling with the Cooper family when the parents glean killed. After alot of stress the Ingalls fetch a home for the children James and Cassandra. Until they realize that adopting them was the factual thing and they do.

This is all of Season 7. It has some special features: Irregular interviews with Dean Butler (Almanzo Wilder) and Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson-Dalton) . Audio Commentary with Alison Arngrim, Author and Journalist Patrick Loubatiere sits with friends Dean Butler and Alison Arngrim and discuss’s the television program. Quizz for Season 7. This DVD is one of those runt, unknown, “Beatle-Surprises” that pop up once in a blue moon (with the upcoming CirqueduSoliel Soundtrack coming up as the “next-big-thing”) … I assume myself to be quite the Beatles’ completionist and I had never seen the majority of these interviews in their entirety and mighty less in such pristine quality… As stated by other reviewer; A must-have! … Worth the impress of admission alone is the lengthy Bonus-Feature with everything and more concerning “We’re More Approved than Jesus” enlighten… Watching those teenagers be interviewed in a describe shop was a major nostalgia sail (to search for those walls adorned with the “latest releases” like in the olden days!) … Bag this one!

This very affordable DVD is surpringly rotund of rare Beatles footage, newsreels, and interviews. I highly recommend “From Liverpool to San Francisco” to anyone who wants to expand his / her knowledge of the greatest band in Rock n Roll history. I first saw “Amadeus” around 1984 when it was first released. Besides being a visual and musical masterpiece of film making, it kick-started my life-long admire of and appreciation for classical music.

I won’t uncover the fable synopsis as it’s already been thoroughly described both by Amazon.com’s principal review and multiple customers here already.

I will say though that this edition, ‘The Directors Cut’, is a major improvement over the first DVD release. First, (and finally!!), the movie is now a single-side DVD…gone is the annoying 2 sided ‘flipper’ that the first release was. You can now see “Amadeus” from begin to conclude without having to secure up and turn it over. For my money, that’s reason enough alone to enjoy this current version.

Secondly, ‘The Directors Cut’ now adds about 20-30 minutes of previously deleted scenes, placed aid into where they were originally intended. Personally I glean some of the newer stuff enhances the memoir overall and fills in some details that were left vague in the unusual theatrical release. I won’t give away any details, but there is a novel scene between Mozart’s wife, Constanza, and Salieri, Mozart’s chief musical rival (and secret arch-enemy) early in the movie that puts an whole recent perspective of Salieri’s curved and battered psyche.

As for the DVD itself, the represent and sound quality are both exemplary. Included is a second disk with bonus material including interviews and making-of extras.

If you loved the fresh, you owe it to yourself to select up this version. If you’re current to classical music and Mozart, this is the best position to begin.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

If you’re a fan of the new theatrical gash of “Amadeus” you’ll have mixed feelings about the “Director’s Chop”. While I perfer the latter for a number of reasons, the feeling and walk of the unusual theatrical version differs somewhat from the “Director’s Prick”. The most significant section are extended scenes that include Salieri agreeing to succor Constanze if she has an affair with him. He ends up rejecting her when she shows that she so loves her husband that she would be willing to do so. A number of the opera scenes are extended as well with more business after the explain between Mozart and his leading lady. There’s also a longer sequence though-provoking Salieri’s visit to Mozart comissioning the “Requiem”. Most of the material adds to the power of the film while a few sequences unprejudiced give additional relieve tale on various characters. The unique theatrical version which won an 8 Oscars runs about 25 minutes shorter than the 3 hour “Director’s Carve”. Forman also provide a challenging commentary track for the film along with writer Peter Shaffer (“Equus”) .

The image quality for the “Director’s Prick” is helpful to the current theatrical version. The film was restored to its fresh luster for re-release resulting in mighty more natural flesh tones and a sharper visual image as well. The colors which play in vital allotment in conveying the themes of each sequence are more robust and intellectual. The theatrical version looks quite pleasant although it was first issued on DVD as a “flipper” (meaning you had to flip it over) DVD after roughly two hours to glance the last third of the movie. The vast advantage for the theatrical version is Neville Mariner’s come by on an isolated track.

The second disc of the “Director’s Slice” has one terrific extra, a brief talent list and the unusual theatrical trailer. The trustworthy behind-the-scenes documentary covers the highlights and difficulties that Forman faced in translating Shaffer’s stage play to the mask. At nearly 40 minutes it could have provided more background including outtakes, rehearsals and auditions but it’s quite a few documentary as it is. There was plenty of room on the second disc to include Mariner’s isolated earn but the documentary is really all we gather.

As to which is better–it’s a toss up. Both versions of the film work extremely well although I catch the “Director’s Lop” for the added footage, the sharper more robust image quality and the higher definintion anamorphic transfer. I do miss the isolated Marriner gather of Mozart’s music that appeared on the current disc in 5.1. Given the capacity of the second disc, it could easily have been transferred and would have added value to this special edition.

A legend of envy, lust and madden “Amadeus” focuses on the brief life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart (Oscar nominee Tom Hulce giving a terrific performance) was a child prodigy who smooth his first share at the age of 4 and produced a remarkably gigantic body of work for such a brief life. His nemesis is court composer Antonio Salieri (Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham in a great performance) . This is really Salieri’s chronicle as his jealousy drives him to kill Mozart. Salieri is so consumed with his jealousy, that while recognizing the beauty and originality of Mozart’s music, he can’t befriend but want to kill its creator. Salieri’s quaint compositions can’t absorb a candle to Mozart’s complex, fresh and shiny pieces.

Featuring inspired supporting performances by Christine Ebersole, Jeffrey Jones, Simon Callow (“Three Weddings and a Funeral”), the only performer that doesn’t do anything for me is Elizabeth Berridge as Constanze. She replaced Meg Tilly objective prior to shooting. The magnificent production execute, cinematography and lively direction originate “Amadeus: The Director’s Crop” an experience worth savoring. This deluxe edition features a running commentary by director Milos Forman, writer Peter Shaffer (“Equus”), a enormous 30 exiguous documentary on the making of the movie and a terrific 5.1 Dolby Digital remastered soundtrack. Restored from the recent film elements, the film hasn’t looked this robust and bright in quite some time. The digital anamorphic transfer looks qualified and almost rich enough to eat. This version doesn’t replace the modern theatrical version but is more of an enhanced experience for those who loved the first film. Since this version runs roughly three hours, be prepared for a long evening.

Highly recommended, this examination of the destructive power of jealousy smooth resonates with power, passion and fabulous music. If you’re not an opera buff, I’d suggest skipping this for, while the film is great, fragment of the power comes from appreciating the music that Mozart wrote. We glance a lot of excerpts from a variety of Mozart’s operas throughout the movie. Whichever version of the movie you decide, you’ll clear to be satisfied. I’d give the “Director’s Slash” a dinky edge for better recount.

This may very well be the saddest movie I have ever seen in my life, but it is also one of the best. If you have not seen it yet, I highly recommend that you do. It tells the account of two young women who meet when they are 11 years frail. At a behold, they seem like two completely different people, but in the waste, it’s their strong devotion to their friendship that manufacture them so discontinuance. Bette Midler does an capable job in her portrayal as CC Bloom, a feisty redhead who is definite to succeed in music and will do almost anything to do so. Hilary Whitney, played by the talented Barbara Hershey, is a calm, reserved woman who often finds herself jealous of CC’s rising success. CC and Hilary may be very different, but they grow even closer when Hilary gives birth to a child–a radiant dinky girl named Victoria. When Hilary becomes diagnosed with a fatal disease, she is forced to search her soul and strengthen her relationships with CC and Victoria. Throughout the movie, CC and Hilary go through many difficult times, but in the destroy, their friendship prevails. I definitely recommend this movie to everyone, but don’t ask to have dry eyes at the demolish! It will gain you laugh, it will execute you shout, and it will touch every fragment of your heart. It really does exhibit that even though two friends may be very different from one another, and even though they may go through a lot of rough times, it is the strength of their friendship that will be the decisive element. Go sight this movie–you won’t be sorry!

Beaches is one of the best movies I have ever seen, it is one of my accepted. I have never seen such a curious film about friends, and the trials and tribulations, the joys and fears, that go with the friendship. The music, is worthy. By far Bette’s best music to date. On many tracks there is a resonance of sadness in each trace. The standout obviously is the classic ballad “Wind Beneath My Wings”, very uplifting, murky, but joyous at the same time. I sang it at a friend’s funeral a few years ago. “Baby Mine”, “The Friendship Theme” (instrumental) and “I Assume It’s Going To Rain Today” are all gloomy songs, that manufacture you consider on life (along with “Wind Beneath My Wings”) and realize how precious and short our lives are, and how we shouldn’t seize it for granted. The fun side is shown through songs like “I’ve Quiet Got My Health” and “Otto Titsling”. I also really like the cloak of the Dolly Parton song “I Know You By Heart”, its on Dolly’s 1987 Rainbow album (out of print) and its a duet with Smokey Robinson. Overall though, this is a handsome album to listen to, its fair brimming with quality material and talent. I also suggest you accompany this cd with the movie, absolutely a must search for if you haven’t seen it yet!

as I have read others reviewers comments. This is a movie about life and the challenges we all face as family members, individuals, students, teachers, and members of society. It’s about sacrifice and going the distance. It’s about following your believe heart in the face of opposition. And perhaps most importantly it’s about philosophy. Or more accurately it’s about the contrasting philosophies of the films two principals. Bill Bowerman (Donald Sutherland) and Steve Prefontaine (Billy Crudup) . Each wants to catch and each is a master at their contain particular craft. But the conflict arises out of each one’s definition about what winning really is. And there lies the essence of the record.

The film is objective flat out spellbinding. Particularly the olympic accelerate in Munich is perfectly directed with both staged and dependable footing in addtion to being paced so well that I as other reviewers have commented spy the speed each time on the edge of my seat hoping for an outcome that I know isn’t coming. Not to mention the numerous silly one liners in the film.

Crudup and Sutherland are outstanding as opposite sides of the same coin.

It’s been a few years since I first saw ‘Prefontaine’. I’d seen it several times and I finally saw ‘Without Limits’ tonight.

I plan the acting in this movie could have been grand better. The principle actors were decent, but it was a long descend off to the secondaries as far as acting talent. I felt Leto was more brash, cocky and arrogant. In comparison to Crudup, it made me feel Pre was this plot on many occasions more out of panic or a need to be arrogant, as opposed to suitable plan in himself. More like a prima donna.

Facts

Given that these are movies and not documentaries, I really don’t care about the exiguous ones such as how terminate a accelerate was, etc. But would like to obtain the truth on the the bigger issues such as personal relationships, how he harm his foot (there either were witnesses, or there were not), and how directly he was fervent in the fight against the AAU. I liked the added details in Munich and his life after Munich, showing his continued successes. These details were grand from an informational perspective, but it certainly made the direction seem choppy. Without input from Pre himself, so many aspects of his friendship and like life are skewed by the perspective of the person that is recounting it, and can be questioned in both movies. To peek it is to change it, as they say. I would certainly say if you asked for the anecdote of my uneventful life from 2 different ex-girlfriends, you would probably procure 2 completely different stories.

Racing

This movie seemed a slight shallow in this plot. It seemed like all it did to instruct the audience about strategy and Pre’s abilities was to say, “You are too boring to waddle, so you have to push the walk faster to beget the kickers tired”. Maybe that is as considerable detail as the popular viewer wants, but I would have liked to have seen more. I belief the hurry sequences in both films were top-notch.

The interviews mixed with tradional fable telling might have worked better if the casting had been better. Production quality was not as proper as WL.

By FAR the pleasant movie. Crudup and Sutherland’s relationship honest felt so noteworthy more actual. And a million times more dilapidated. You have to seek information from authenticity of course, but their philosophical conflicts truly drive this movie and beget the overall product mighty more obsolete.

This is not meant to be a documentary, and I can understand having to summarize 3-4 events into 1 event to obtain an right point – whether you are talking about Pre’s fancy life or his races – for the sake of drama or time. I calm would have liked to seen at least a few minutes talking about Pre’s races after Munich instead of leaving the fresh viewer to thinking that he only ran 1 meet after Munich, and he died later that night. To me this was a weakness in the film. It left a lot of places where you have to hold in the blanks – such as Bowerman’s appointment as Olympic coach, the Pre graduated and was no longer a student, etc. Now that I’ve seen both films and have a stronger grip on the just facts, skipping these details aren’t as stout of a deal as they are merely background to what is happening to Pre – as long as you are already aware of them.

Racing
In addition to focusing on Pre’s relationships, it spent more time on bustle strategy, introducing other athletes than impartial Viren, and seemed to consume the sport at a deeper level. As a veteran competitor, this involved me quite a bit. Prefontaince had more bustle sequences, but I view the sound effects in WL were huge to acquire the feel of the run. The tension felt of running in the pack was expertly done, and the acting of Crudup in these sequences was worthy. I would have liked to gape a diminutive more wound on their faces and a tiny less closed-mouth running. WL did a better job at showing exactly how swiftly a 63 second quarter is.

This movie went out of its diagram to focus on Pre, Mary, and Bowerman’s relationships. This unbiased felt more authentic and stale. I contemplate it is a shame they had to sum up so many of Pre’s races – before and after the Olympics – but this was a conscious decision made to embrace Pre’s chronicle by showing fewer of his races – which can be felt as redundant in this medium, and humanizing him more. Prefontaine did a immense job showing Pre’s drive and heart, but I notion WL was more rewarding by showing his struggles with himself and those finish to him – which surely must have existed.

While both movies showed some sides of Pre that aren’t always listed as ‘good’ characteristics, only in WL did it truly feel like reality. The dialogue in Prefontaine certainly felt more like a Disney movie and combined with delivery, it was all a small contrived.

Once again, I felt that Without Limits was more the thinking-man’s version of the movie, while Prefontaine did an righteous job with the facts of Pre’s racing career and had an emotionally high value throughout the movie. Both raw emotion and embracing a modern philosophy can inspire someone, and they both succeed at this. I would probably resolve Prefontaine to present to people that do not know Pre’s legend, but for my hold viewing, I would probably inspect Without Limits repeatedly to regain to the heart of the human chronicle and struggles with philosophy, passion, and desire.

I usually don’t leave reviews like this, but after reading many and finally making up my mind on which Aquarium DVD to bewitch I wanted to leave my enjoy. I found the other reviews on this DVD to be very fair. The fish leer astounding on a both grand and runt televisions. This is necessary to me because I’ve seen DVDs where a minute tank was filmed and when you see it on a 50″ plasma the fish witness like monsters. The backgrounds in all cases succor create the scenes peek very natural. Other DVDs I checked out seemed to have very insensible or no backgrounds and this didn’t trace me as distinguished as the live rock or greenery. My wife and I had friends over during the 4th of July and everyone loved it. Distinct, they could have unbiased been acting polite, but two of them asked me to write down the name and where they could prefer one. This was very well done.

I’m almost shy the floor is getting wet. LOL. No kidding this is so beutiful and relaxing. All it has is the sound of the filter and water bubbles which is gargantuan. If we want music we can add our possess.

I’ve had fish on and off my whole life and was having thoughts of getting another aquarium. Then notion of this. No work, no ample bucks, all the joys. I have a 32 trip LCD HDTV and The fish eye absolutely trusty. They are the honest size and it doesn’t loop support the same 6 seconds, you bag straight elephantine clips of 6 different tanks, saltwater and freshwater. I cannot select my eyes off of it. So Aloof.

This is the best relaxation therapy I have seen in years. You will not be disappointed. All 5 star reviews and worth it’s weight in gold.

Black Caesar (1973) is one heck of a trustworthy movie. I detest the term blaxploitation that is broken-down to portray movies of this genre because it implies that these sorts of films are somehow second-class entries in the world of cinema. Unlit Caesar is a first-class slide from launch to attain, taking as considerable from classic gangster films of the 1930s and 1940s as it does from earlier blaxploitation films such as Shaft. Larry Cohen gave us a tough, mean, dirty, gritty film that tells it and shows it like it is: plenty of cursing, gunplay, blood, profanity, nudity, and racism. Tommy (Williamson) grew up on the streets of Harlem, where the living was hard. The music makes this wonderful film even better, as the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, supplies the funky soundtrack. Songs such as Down and Out in Unusual York City and Mama’s Tiring, sharply explain pivotal moments and design distinct the film always fires on all cylinders. It’s hard to gain Dismal Caesar was filmed in only 18 days, especially given some of the explain saunter scenes taking situation on Modern York streets. This is a masterpiece of a low-budget film. Maybe a couple of the sociological aspects of the film don’t play as effectively as they did aid in 1973, but Sad Caesar has really lost nothing of its raw power and intensity over the years.

Warner has done a painstaking job of restoring this classic film and although it isn’t perfect, it’s an exceptional job that deserves kudos. The film has never looked this fine with colors that pop and true fleshtones. More distinguished the seams that one could gape for the separate cameras aren’t quite as glaring as before. The image quality is exceptionally crisp with terrific detail. Audio sounds extremely superior with a nice 5.1 mix.

The film is spread over two discs with the fresh Overture and Alfred Newman’s advantageous net included as piece of the package. We collect a terrific feature length commentary track from “West” stuntman Loren James who provides plenty of background details about the physical shooting of the film, filmmaker David Strohmaier, film scholar Rudy Behlmer, Cierama’s John Sittig and music historian Jon Burlingame. My only complaint is that Burlingame will execute a comment about listening to Newman’s reliable catch and then whomever edited his comments continues to play them good over the music cue we should be listening to without interruption.

The only other complaint that I have is that while the dirt and grit has been removed making the film survey good, there’s one sequence that has always bugged me–there is a bit of dirt correct in the middle of the frame of the opening skim over sequence that I wish they could have figured out how to lift. Other than that, it’s heavenly aloof looking throughout the presentation despite an occasiona bit of image unsteadiness as characters fade across the shroud and span of the three cameras lenses.

We also derive a terrific hour and a half documentary on the Cinerama process on the third disc.

There are three different versions of the film in re-release: the first is a three disc DVD edition with impartial the film; the second is the three disc state postcards, a reproduction of the novel press book, souvenir book and photos as piece of the package;there is no equivalent for this SCE in the Blu-ray edition although it does have a booklet as portion of that package.

The image and sound quality in this restored edition improves on the current single disc edition of the film with a terrific commentary track and documentary to round out the location. With a attractive casts (James Stewart, Gregory Peck, Carolyn Jones, Debbie Reynolds, Carol Baker, Lee J. Cobb, George Peppard, John Wayne, Lee Van Cleef, Karl Malden, Agnes Moorehead and others) this was truly one of the last myth, lyrical westerns to be produced in Hollywood. Highly recommended.

If you’ve never seen the unusual Cinerama mammoth cloak release, or only know the previous video versions of HTWWW, you are in for a titanic treat. The fully restored classic American film, the top box office hit of 1962, is aesthetic.

And the Blu-ray hi-def transfer is truly breathtaking. I literally gasped when I saw it. And so have special preview audiences of the hi-def DVD.

Warner — which owns the pre 1986 MGM library — has spent a ton of dough getting this apt. Six years, hundreds of people, thousands of hours and millions of dollars have been invested in creating and applying fresh technology that has virtually erased the “join lines” that marred the earlier — rather horrid — video transfers. Not only that, but every frame has been restored. That’s the equivalent of restoring three 35 MM films — the fresh was exposed using three alligned cameras. The final aspect ratio is 2.89:1 (that’s nearly three times as wide as it is high) . And it is a wondrous gape to peruse.

Seeing this recent version is like experiencing the film for the first time. The familiar tale — based on a series in Life magazine — follows three generations of a typical pioneer Ohio Valley family from 1839 to 1889. A myriad of stars shine in this expansive American adventure — John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Jimmy Stewart, Debbie Reynolds, Karl Malden, Lee J. Cobb and Carrol Baker are among the many recognizable faces.

Three accomplished directors (including John Ford) helmed this rousing tale that does not degrade the Native American experience even as it allows for the conflicts the westward movement created.

The absolutely blooming Blu-ray version inlcudes a “smilebox” transfer that mimics the fresh Cinerama experience of a giant crooked cloak. On a broad video reveal — especially if projected on a immense pull down cloak — this version is jaw-dropping.

The extras include Rudy Strohmaier’s remarkable acclaimed documentary “Cinerama Adventure.” And there’s a fantastic commentary by filmmaker Strohmaier, John Sittig (director of Cinerama, Inc.), film historian Rudy Behlmer, music historian Jon Burlingame and stuntman Loren James. But why no Debbie Reynolds?

The only other sage three camera Cinerama film is “The Fantastic World of the Brothers Grimm” and the stored negative has suffered water pain so there are no plans for a beefy restoration at this time.

As a kid I saw this film at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. The impact of the mammoth sound and images swept me away and I remember the experience vividly. The rousing music, the engrossing heartland American record unexcited works. And thanks to cutting edge technology, it’s better than ever.

Young Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) flees from his treacherous uncle, and is discovered by a band of Narnians. Along the device, he accidentally ends up summoning the extinct Kings and Queens of Narnia — also known as the Pevensie children, who were waiting at a state location when they were unexpectedly sucked trough a tunnel.

Though initially blissful to have returned to Narnia, the Pevensies are timid when they acquire that their once-idyllic land has been nearly destroyed. Caspian has been organizing a ramshackle army of native Narnians, but Peter (William Moseley) finds that fighting an organized, armed force is very different from battling the White Witch. And after a disastrous attack, the Narnians are facing almost sure destruction — but Lucy (Georgie Henley) is convinced that Aslan can somehow achieve them, and restore the kingdom to Prince Caspian….

“Prince Caspian” is definitely a darker fable than its predecessor — noble guys die, coups fail, detestable machinations succeed, the castles are grimy, some of the capable guys turn abominable for steady, and a bleak, hopeless feeling suffuses noteworthy of the movie’s second half. Even our heroes have to deal with their doubts and infuriate, especially since Aslan is conspicuously absent for 95% of the entire film.

And if the first film was a shiny fantasy adventure, then this one is a military record with all the well-known action trappings — spectacular aerial drops, castle-wide massacres, and a spectacular finale attractive a massive pit, tree roots, a river, and catapults. But Adamson also packs in as great violence as a PG-rated movie can absorb — while there’s only a few drops of staunch gore, there’s plenty of beheadings, shootings and stabbings.

But Narnia itself has lost none of its charm, and Adamson lingers lovingly on the sunlit forests and serene rivers for as long as he can. And though the yarn is grim, he sprinkles it with plenty of humor (the bound-and-gagged cat) and fairly hastily dialogue. One of the most spectacular scenes involves a very familiar character speaking from inside a sheet of shiny ice, as Caspian is dragged into a necromancer’s ritual. It’s really rather creepy.

Problems with the movie? Well, the climactic battle drags on for a LONG time, and every time you reflect it’ll slay, it revs attend up. And those masked soldiers are a wee bit too reminiscent of “300′s” Persians.

The four Pevensie actors all do solid jobs, although William Moseley is the standout — Peter is struggling with doubt and a bit of alpha rivalry, especially since he’s veteran to being Narnia’s top dog. Barnes starts off a diminutive stiffly — arrive on, where’s the dread when you survey your bed turned into a pincushion? — but soon grows into the difficult role of a Hamlet-like prince who is struggling to become both a Narnian friend and a Telmarine king.

But there’s a graceful radiant supporting cast as well: Castellitto is simply outstanding as the ruthless, icy-cold Miraz, as are Damián Alcázar and Pierfrancesco Favino as his scheming advisors. Warwick Davis does a low-key, malevolent turn as Nikabrik, while Peter Dinklage is the likably brusque, cynical Trumpkin. And Eddie Izzard is capable as the mousy swashbuckler Reepicheep — this could have a laughable, comic-relief character, but he does extinguish up being both adorable and formidable.

There are going to be two versions of the “Prince Caspian” release in either blu ray or regular versions. The more embellish DVD version basically has the film, plus an extra bonus disc with the stuff you’d query in such a movie: bloopers, deleted scenes, and a series of featurettes about the making of the movie — previsualization, fight choreography, sets, special effects, and the guys who play the dwarves Trumpkin and Nikabrik. As for the third disk, it’s going to be a downloadable digital version of the movie.

“Prince Caspian” drops the children’s fantasy feeling, in favor of a darker, more militaristic chronicle — especially with all that father-murder stuff. But despite its darker overtones, it never forgets the light side.

In the very slim chance that Disney reads these reviews, I’d like to pile on to other criticisms in the hope that the Dawn Treader doesn’t obtain the same mistakes. As a big C.S. Lewis and Narnia fan, I was so disappointed in Caspian. Same reasons as many other reviewers: too many unnecessary liberties taken; petite dialogue, so very petite intention to connect with and savor the characters; too grim; etc. At the destroy of the movie, I felt like I didn’t bag to exhaust any time with the characters b/c most of the movie was some sort of battle.

Sure, there were a few noble things. Reepicheep was great; so was the DLF. The scenery and landscapes were shapely. Some of the battles (or parts of battles) were palatable and had a sense of honor and bravery. But that’s about it. Caspian was okay, a microscopic lifeless. The posturing between Peter and Caspian was funny, as was the flicker of romance between Caspian and Susan. Not enough of Aslan. Not enough of Lucy. No lessons. Nothing anywhere reach the charm of Mr. Tumnus.

You know how at the destroy of some movies (pleasant ones) you have that feeling like you want more of a fine thing? You wish the movie would go on and on? (That’s why I ripped through all the Narnia books in the first area.) Well, after watching Caspian, I had a feeling of wanting more of what I knew existed in the book but didn’t arrive through in the movie…it was a yearning for what could have been instead of what was delivered. It was a mammoth disappointment and a sincere shame. And I truly hope the Dawn Treader can roar what the first movie did, and what the books all do….a right connection to the characters and a reason to begin thinking about what it means to have in something and to stand up for your beliefs. I don’t consider that plan is incompatible with making a block-buster of a movie.
